Owning an automotive dealership involves leadership. As the owner of your dealership, it is your job to make sure things are running smoothly. This includes leading your staff in the right direction. Get back to leadership basics by reading on!
An effective leader understands that oppressive work schedules are not the way to get things done. There is an old-school idea that the more hours somebody puts in, the better. This isn’t actually the case though. Instead of focusing on the hours your staff is putting it, pay attention to the quality of their work. Give your employees time off from work to enjoy themselves and spend time with their families. You may notice that their work ethic is improved after some time off, which benefits your dealership.
Another old-school idea is that longevity and seniority is more important than results. Just because an employee has been working at a location for a long time doesn’t mean they’re doing a good job. Sometimes tenured people slack off on the job because of their status. Make sure to hold your entire staff accountable, no matter how long they’ve worked for your dealership.
We live in a fast-paced society that is always moving. When having work meetings, you may feel as though you are on a time crunch. Instead of focusing on your dealership’s needs during your meetings, you may just want to get the meetings over with. Unproductive meetings don’t get much done, so strive to have productive meetings that aren’t rushed.
